Trip to Alaska and West Coast

October 7, 2013 – 55 F and raining.  We drove down Hwy 101 to Newport, OR (pop .10,000) The drive was beautiful with the waves crashing into the beach, rocks and cliffs. We passed through many beach towns very much like driving down 30A at home. Newport looks like a fun place to visit. We will be staying here 2 days or maybe more. We must try the west coast sea food. I thought oysters and shrimp were only harvested in the south but they have lots of oysters and shrimp all along the Oregon coast. Also, it is the home of the dungeon crab. There is a beautiful old bridge across Yaquina Bay on Hwy 101 south of Newport, OR —The Yaquina Bay Bridge (built 1934-1936). We can see it from our campsite at Port of Newport Marina and RV Park. It is a great park. Jo Ann got a wonderful picture of the sunset under the bridge. Prissy had a long walk – running and climbing trees.
